Auburn Red Aces Esports program produced impressive results in regional competition February 21, 2026, with both the Fortnite and Rocket League teams earning top finishes against a competitive field.
The Fortnite team, comprised of Kyle McCann, Ben Hornstein, and Reno Matyja, secured a second-place finish in the region and went on to place fourth in the state. Competing against some of the strongest teams in the area, the trio demonstrated consistent communication, strategic decision-making, and composure under pressure. Their performance throughout the tournament reflected the preparation and commitment they have shown all season.
In Rocket League competition, Kyle McCann, Anthony Slagle, and Jack Zelina advanced through two rounds of play before finishing third in the region. The team maintained steady momentum throughout the day, executing coordinated plays and adapting effectively to their opponents’ strategies.
The teams are led by student advisor Tom Welk, whose guidance and support have played an important role in the program’s continued development and competitive success.
Both teams competed with determination from start to finish, representing the school with professionalism and sportsmanship. Their achievements highlight the continued growth of the esports program.
